A Hybrid Auditory Implant (HAI) is designed to provide restoration of hearing to those individuals with severe hearing loss. It is estimated that over 5.6M people suffer from severe hearing loss in the EU and US. Often, these individuals are not satisfied with the results of traditional hearing aides and do not qualify for cochlear implants. It is our plan to offer them a solution to their hearing loss by combining:

1. electrical stimulation (high frequency hearing loss)
2. acoustical stimulation (low frequency hearing loss)

in a single device that is fully implantable and fully reversible. This will be an invisible solution that will not damage any residual hearing and will allow for future developments, such as stem cell or gene therapy to be available.
